me & my tastes
so who am i to me? i can never really put that onto paper concretely, because i am a human being & we all dwell in possibility, but i can outline some of the things i like at the moment & some other info about me.
i use a lot of names online & i have done for a while now because i'm not the kind to ever get bored of changing things around, but the easiest to remember & least embarrasing is currently mage.
it comes from "mageshades" which is a random name i made up on a whim in 2021 because it sounded cool. my other dorkier name that i use online is ragatha or raggy because i really really like the character of the same name from tadc :o)
ironically, despite my name being mage, i'm not a fan of fantasy or its aesthetics at all! the closest i would say i get to liking fantasy is dark fantasy, but that's just a like.
my real passion lies in science fiction; i am junkie for any & all kinds of science fiction, dark or cliche & inbetween, as you can probably tell from the "story" i wrote for what was originally just going to be a blogging website. i can't help myself :P
it's difficult for me to trace it back to anything but i grew up watching a lot of the doctor who reboot (10 best doctor) & star trek (which i don't remember as well) so those probably shaped me into the specific brand of freak i am today. i know that DW definitely did.
turning to other tastes, i am a very narrative-first person when it comes to what i am drawn too & i enjoy well-written (usually sci-fi) narratives or characters that are imbued with passionate emotions. a good example of this is lobotomy corporation. although most of my favourites usually fit this pattern i'm not immune to occasionally just enjoying a game solely for gameplay or if it appeals to some of my other sensibilities.
now for aesthetic sensibilites; my strongest allegience lies in brutalism/functionalism/utalitarianism. especially in the soviet era (not to glorify it or anything) & sci-fi. i am a functionalist at heart (as you can probably tell from this website layout, which is a result of me just letting my natural impulses guide me towards what i think looks good).
the following (aswell as the other images on this page & site) are a few examples that i think (when viewed as an abstract) roughly show off the full range of the peaks of my aesthetic sensibilities/passions currently:

- action
- cycling
- flying
- the occult
- anything colossal; megastructures, kaiju, the sky
- night
- rain
- snow
- fresh air
- time travel
- surrealism
not sure there's much more to say about me & my tastes, except that i hope one day i can translate my passions into art that captures the spectrum of my interests & feelings. this website aswell as the other writing i do is just the start :)
